Choosing an AI gateway for European workloads

"EU hosted" is not enough information to determine where an AI request is processed. A useful evaluation follows the request through the gateway, every permitted fallback, the upstream provider and the logging layer.

The six questions to verify

  1. 01Map the full data path: browser or application → gateway → fallback provider → model provider → logs.
  2. 02Ask whether regional hosting applies only to the gateway control plane or also to every inference route and fallback.
  3. 03Verify retention independently at the gateway and upstream-provider layers.
  4. 04Check whether failover can be restricted to providers and regions your policy allows.
  5. 05Separate encryption and redaction features from formal certifications or contractual compliance commitments.
  6. 06Confirm whether audit records identify the application/key, chosen model, actual provider, fallback path, latency and cost.

What AetherGate does today

AetherGate is a BYOK control plane: customers connect their own supported provider accounts. It encrypts stored provider credentials, uses revocable gateway keys, supports routing/failover and records operational telemetry.

What AetherGate does not claim

AetherGate does not currently claim EU-only inference, universal zero-data-retention, GDPR certification, or an enterprise compliance attestation. Provider processing remains governed by the selected provider account, endpoint and contract.
